Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Charcoal Trade in West Nile: Eight Suspects Arrested as Environmental Protection Efforts Gain Momentum
In a decisive joint operation, Uganda Police Forces Environmental Protection Police Unit (EPPU), working alongside the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and the National Forestry Authority (NFA), has arrested eight suspects in Madi Okollo District and surrounding areas of the West Nile sub-region for illegal dealing in charcoal. The operation, conducted on July 25, 2026, resulted in the impoundment of 72 bags of charcoal, now secured as exhibits at Madi Okollo Police Station.
