Five Kisoro District Local Government officials have been detained by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate over allegations of soliciting and receiving money from job applicants in exchange for assistance in securing employment. Those arrested are District Speaker Hakizimana Amos, District Service Commission (DSC) Chairperson Nshaka Erastus, DSC Member Turamuhawe Richard, District Councillor Mfitumukiza John, and alleged broker Muhanika Alphonse. Two other suspects — DSC Secretary Francesca Mugisha and teacher-middleman Matata Alex — are still on the run. According to the Anti-Corruption Unit, preliminary findings indicate that between October and December 2025, the suspects, together with others still at large, allegedly solicited and received approximately UGX 200 million from various job applicants. Investigations are in advanced stages. Once completed, the suspects are expected to be charged before the Anti-Corruption Court with corruption-related offences. The Unit has appealed to members of the public who were asked to pay or who paid money in connection with securing jobs in Kisoro District to come forward and report additional cases. The arrests form part of the ongoing nationwide anti-corruption drive that has seen several local government officials detained in different districts over similar allegations of job racketeering and abuse of office. Selling public jobs remains one of the most corrosive forms of corruption, denying meritorious candidates opportunities and undermining confidence in local government institutions.
