The death toll from the tragic King David Junior School bus crash in Kapchorwa has risen to 24 after three more pupils died while receiving treatment, according to the latest police update.

Traffic Director AIGP Lawrence Nuwabiine confirmed the increase on Saturday. The victims now include 23 pupils and one adult. The crash happened on the evening of Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, Kawowo sub-county, as the bus returned from an educational tour to Sipi Falls.

Preliminary findings show the driver lost control of the Isuzu bus (registration UA 108BQ), causing it to veer off the road, strike a large roadside rock, and overturn. Investigations into the exact cause, including possible mechanical failure and overloading concerns, remain ongoing. Several other pupils and adults were injured and hospitalized.
