The army has finally withdrawn from the premises of Nation Media Group Uganda after weeks of occupation. According to a report by The Observer, management has cautioned staff against returning to the offices immediately. The company’s internal security team is still conducting thorough safety and security assessments before the premises can be fully reopened. “A lot of checks are ongoing, and we shouldn’t compromise that exercise,” the internal communication stated. The military presence at NMG facilities in Namuwongo and the Kampala Serena International Conference Centre began in the early hours of 28 June 2026. Soldiers sealed off the premises following public directives by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, forcing NTV Uganda, Spark TV, Daily Monitor, KFM and Dembe FM off air and out of print. The government later described the action as part of a security-led inquiry instituted by President Museveni. Operations began a phased resumption in late July after clearance, but soldiers remained on site until this week. The full withdrawal marks a significant step toward normalising activities at one of Uganda’s largest media houses. King Musah Media will continue monitoring the situation as NMG completes its internal assessments.
