Raising the issue as a matter of national importance in Parliament on Tuesday, Malende said communities in Lubaga, Kawempe, Makindye and Central Division are grappling with uncollected waste. She warned that the situation poses a serious public health risk. The MP called on the line minister to outline immediate measures being taken to clear the garbage and long-term plans to ensure timely waste disposal after future National Cleaning Day exercises. Responding on behalf of Government, Chief Whip Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has intensified efforts to improve waste collection across the city. Aceng told Parliament that KCCA has doubled its efforts to ensure timely garbage disposal and that additional garbage trucks will be provided to strengthen waste management going forward. The exchange highlights ongoing challenges with solid waste management in Kampala despite periodic city-wide cleaning campaigns.
