Fourteen people have died in a fatal road crash in Lwera Swamp, Kamunga Trading Centre, along the Kampala–Masaka Highway. According to Uganda Police, the accident occurred around 11:00 pm on 3 August 2026. It involved a Toyota Hiace taxi registration UA 662AQ and a Sino truck registration UBS 040F that was transporting sand. All 14 victims who died on the spot were travelling in the taxi. Four other people — two from each vehicle — sustained injuries and were admitted to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital. Police visited the scene and have launched investigations. Efforts are underway to trace the driver of one of the vehicles who fled after the collision.
