With the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow fast approaching, the Uganda Olympic Committee and National Council of Sports are intensifying preparations, placing special emphasis on team selection and para powerlifting.

The delegation is expected to include around 55 athletes competing in athletics, boxing, swimming, judo, cycling, netball, basketball, weightlifting, and para sports, with officials finalising selections based on performance at national trials and international meets.

Para powerlifting has emerged as a key area of focus, with targeted training camps already underway. A senior Uganda Olympic Committee official said: "We are not just sending a team — we are building a competitive squad. Para powerlifting is a medal prospect, and we are giving it the attention it deserves."

Preparation also includes mental conditioning, logistical planning, and support for staff, with the committee working closely with federations to address funding gaps. As a nation that has produced stars like Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, expectations are high the 2026 Games will produce new heroes.
