Sports Minister Peter Ogwang has assured Parliament that government is on course to deliver three stadiums to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Speaking during plenary, Ogwang said he wrote to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requesting an inspection of Aki-Bua Stadium. CAF agreed that the facility can host AFCON matches if government commits to delivering the required standards. “The contractor is working at 120 percent to beat the December deadline,” the Minister told MPs. Uganda is co-hosting AFCON 2027 with other East African nations. The successful delivery of modern, CAF-compliant stadiums remains a key requirement for the tournament.
