The newly completed Hoima City Stadium is now fully operational and has been hailed as a world-class facility ready to host high-level matches as Uganda intensifies preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Vice President Jessica Alupo and other government officials recently inspected the venue and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by Turkish firm SUMMA. The stadium, built at a cost of approximately $129 million, features a modern pitch, adequate seating, floodlights, media facilities, and dressing rooms meeting CAF standards.

Sports Minister Peter Ogwang said during a recent visit: "Hoima City Stadium is not just a venue — it is a statement of Uganda's readiness. We are on course to deliver a tournament that will make East Africa proud." The stadium is expected to host matches for two groups during AFCON 2027, with supporting access roads, hotels, and training pitches in the Hoima cluster also progressing well.

The development boosts confidence ahead of qualifiers beginning in September 2026. FUFA President Moses Magogo has already conducted inspection tours confirming Hoima will play a central role. For the people of Bunyoro and Western Uganda, the stadium represents more than football — it is a catalyst for economic growth through tourism, jobs, and improved infrastructure.
