President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged UGX 2 million to each household of Ugandans recently repatriated from South Africa, as part of an extensive reintegration and recovery package. The announcement was made during a high-profile engagement with the returnees at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

The cash grant aims to provide immediate financial relief to families who faced xenophobic violence, loss of livelihoods, and displacement in South Africa. It complements the government's broader support programme, which includes trauma counselling, civic orientation, national identification registration, and linkages to ongoing wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.

The pledge comes as over 1,100 Ugandans complete the first phase of a successful voluntary repatriation exercise triggered by escalating anti-migrant unrest in South Africa in June and July 2026.
