As Erias Lukwago's misprision of treason case advances following his committal to the High Court, a humanitarian dimension has emerged: his legal team is urgently requesting that prison authorities transfer the ailing former Kampala Lord Mayor to Fortis Memorial Research Institute in India for specialised medical care, under guard.

The application highlights concerns about Lukwago's deteriorating health in custody. Earlier medical reports from Mulago National Referral Hospital diagnosed multiple chronic conditions, including complications from a previous spinal surgery, breathing issues, a heart condition, hernia, and an ear problem, with doctors recommending follow-up with the original surgical team in India after local facilities could not safely conduct necessary scans.

Lukwago, who has appeared in court both physically and via video link, has described severe pain that basic prison medication fails to manage. His lawyers argue continued detention without advanced treatment poses a serious risk to his life, and the request for a guarded transfer reflects a compromise between security concerns and medical necessity.
