BREAKING NEWS Tooro Kingdom has announced the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. In an official statement issued late on Thursday, 27 August 2026, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki confirmed that the monarch passed away at approximately 10:00 p.m. “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening,” the statement read. “This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda. Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire.” The Prime Minister called upon the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during this difficult time. He further announced that the continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom. Earlier in the day, the Kingdom had confirmed that King Oyo was in critical condition and appealed for prayers. Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said he received the news from the Omuhikirwa of Tooro and immediately informed Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. “The Kabaka urges the people of Tooro to stand together during this period of grief. The Kingdom of Buganda stands with the people of Tooro, and all Ugandans, during this sad moment,” Mayiga said. Funeral and mourning arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course.
