The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the timetables for the 2026 national examinations, revealing a notable surge in candidate registration across the country. According to the board, provisional candidature has reached 1,627,885 learners across the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) levels, representing a 14.9 percent increase from the previous year.
Examination schedule breakdown. According to the released schedule, UCE candidates will be the first to sit their assessments, running from 8 October to 3 November 2026. Primary Leaving Examination candidates will write their papers between 30 October and 4 November, while UACE examinations are set to take place from 7 November through 5 December 2026. UNEB has advised headteachers, candidates, and parents to align their preparations with the official dates to avoid logistical complications.
Growth and access. Education stakeholders have noted that the 14.9 percent increase in candidature reflects growing access to basic and secondary education in Uganda. The expansion is seen by administrators as evidence of improved student retention rates across both rural and urban districts, supported by ongoing universal education programs.
Concerns over resources. On the other hand, analysts and teacher organizations caution that managing over 1.6 million candidates will put additional pressure on UNEB's logistical and supervisory capacity. Concerns remain over adequate distribution of examination materials, preventing malpractices, and ensuring sufficient invigilation, particularly in hard-to-reach districts where school infrastructure remains constrained.
UNEB has maintained that early preparation and strict security protocols will be deployed to protect the integrity of the national assessment process. King Musah Media will continue to monitor the story as schools across the country prepare for the upcoming examination cycle.
