The Queen Mother of Tooro Kingdom, Best Kemigisa, has disclosed that an escalating succession conflict following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV forced the royal family to leave the late monarch's young child in Texas, United States.
According to Kemigisa, the family had originally intended to bring the child back to Uganda on the same flight following their journey from the US. However, as tensions surrounding the kingdom's future leadership heightened, the family determined that keeping the heir abroad was the most prudent course of action for the time being.
A divided kingdom. The revelation adds a significant layer to the ongoing controversy within the Tooro Kingdom administration in Fort Portal. Following Omukama Oyo's passing, the Babiito clan elders moved to endorse Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new monarch, proclaiming him Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. Conversely, key factions within the royal family insist on adhering to the late King's written will, which named his biological son as his rightful successor.
Calls for calm. The impasse has sparked debate between traditionalists who champion clan customs and observers who argue that a monarch's explicit wishes should take precedence. While supporters of the clan council maintain that traditional rites were properly observed to prevent a power vacuum, Queen Mother Kemigisa has consistently appealed for unity and restraint among the royal family and the people of Tooro during this difficult period of mourning.
The situation remains closely watched by cultural authorities and citizens across the region. King Musah Media will continue to follow developments in this story as they unfold.
