Supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) on Friday marched to the Turkish Embassy in Kampala, demanding that Turkey hand over social media critic Fred Lumbuye to face criminal charges in Uganda.

The demonstration was led by PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla on the instructions of PLU chairman and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Addressing the gathering, Twalla stated that Lumbuye is not a legitimate political refugee and should return to answer to Ugandan law, calling on Turkish authorities to respect bilateral diplomatic relations.

Embassy closed amid security deployment. The Turkish Embassy closed its premises for the day in anticipation of the crowd, while police officers provided security along the route. The march ended without major incident, though Twalla warned that PLU would organize a larger protest if Turkey fails to act on their demands.

The critic's view. In a video statement released shortly after, Fred Lumbuye dismissed the protest as a political show intended to promote Gen Muhoozi's profile rather than a genuine extradition effort. Lumbuye pointed out that demonstrators carried PLU flags and promotional attire bearing Gen Muhoozi's image rather than placards specifically addressing his legal extradition.

Lumbuye also claimed that organizers had misled Gen Muhoozi about the turnout, alleging that while one million people had been promised, only around 600 participants turned up for the event.

The exchange highlights the continuing tension between Ugandan state-aligned movements and diaspora critics operating online. King Musah Media will continue to monitor diplomatic developments and legal updates regarding this case.
