According to reporting by BBC Africa, South African authorities have rescued around 200 patients from a suspected illegal rehabilitation facility.

Inspectors and law enforcement officers discovered overcrowded conditions at the facility, where some individuals were found restrained in chains. Many of those rescued were suffering from severe physical neglect, including sores all over their bodies.

Local officials are investigating the operations of the facility to hold those responsible accountable for running an unregistered centre and subjecting residents to severe maltreatment.
