President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday, 27 August 2026, officially opened the Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments in Nsambya, Kampala. The dual-branded development marks the debut of the Marriott Hotels and Marriott Executive Apartments brands in Uganda. It features 181 hotel rooms and suites alongside 96 fully serviced executive apartments. The project was developed by Ugandan entrepreneurs Ponsiano Ngabirano and his wife Eva, the founders of Capital Shoppers supermarket chain. The couple started with a small grocery shop in Nakasero before expanding into larger retail and now hospitality. Museveni congratulated Ngabirano for the transformation from a small shop into a major investment. “This is the kind of transformation we want to see, from importing to producing and creating wealth here in Uganda,” the President said. He emphasised that Uganda’s development must be driven by commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT. The hotel is expected to create hundreds of direct jobs, with the majority of employees being Ugandan nationals, and support local suppliers through procurement. It also expands Kampala’s capacity to host regional and international conferences. Museveni thanked Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala for providing the land, as well as Marriott International, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and other partners who contributed to the project. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa described the investment as a vote of confidence in Uganda’s economy and a boost to the tourism and hospitality sector. The Kampala Marriott Hotel includes multiple restaurants and bars, wellness facilities, and extensive meeting and event spaces, including a grand ballroom. King Musah Media congratulates the investors and partners on the milestone.
