President Yoweri Museveni has ordered that the late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, be given an official burial. In a condolence message posted on Saturday, 29 August 2026, the President further directed that national flags fly at half-mast for three days — the day before the burial, the burial day, and the day after. Museveni also revealed that the late King left behind a young son who will be introduced to the public as his heir at the appropriate time. “Fortunately, in a telephone call, Her Royal Highness Kemigisa told me that H.H. Oyo left a young boy heir that will be introduced to the public at the right time,” the President said. He noted that Queen Mother Best Kemigisa had earlier informed him that Oyo was battling an aggressive form of cancer. The government supported the Royal Family to seek treatment for the King first in Germany and later in the United States, where he died at the age of 34. Museveni described the death as a major loss to Tooro and Uganda, saying the young King had demonstrated potential to work with both central and local governments in the development of Tooro. The directive for an official burial means the Government of Uganda will formally participate in the organisation of the funeral alongside Tooro Kingdom. The late Omukama ascended the throne in 1995 at the age of three and reigned for nearly 31 years. King Musah Media joins the people of Tooro and the nation in mourning.
