E-Bus Express, a subsidiary of Kiira Motors Corporation, has launched new electric bus services in Kira Municipality. The company has deployed electric buses on three routes: Kisasi–Kyanja–Kungu

Ntinda–Najjera–Nakwero

Ntinda–Naalya–Namugongo

Passengers will enjoy free rides for one week until 6 September 2026. Thereafter, fares will start at Shs800 for adults, with schoolchildren paying half price. The buses are equipped with cashless payment systems powered by MTN MoMo, free Wi-Fi, phone-charging facilities, air-conditioning and enhanced safety features. E-Bus Express Board Chairman Emmanuel Mugunga said the company plans to expand its fleet to 50 buses by the end of the year and is ready to deploy more buses across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. He appealed to authorities to allocate additional routes. The launch comes at a time when the government is intensifying a crackdown on taxis in dangerous mechanical condition. Local leaders in Kira and Wakiso have welcomed the service as a cleaner and more structured alternative for commuters. State Minister for Kampala and other officials have described the expansion of electric buses as an important step towards reducing traffic congestion, cutting pollution and improving urban mobility.
