A 38-year-old boda boda rider was shot dead on Saturday morning during the enforcement of movement restrictions for the second National Cleaning Day. The deceased has been identified as Ronald Kizito Jjuuko. The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. at Ndejje Kanaaba in Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. According to police, officers from Ndejje Police Station had been deployed to secure the area and enforce the cleaning exercise. Preliminary reports indicate that Jjuuko attempted to force his way through a barricaded section on his motorcycle. A confrontation followed, during which Police Constable Allan Okello discharged his firearm, fatally wounding the rider. Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that Constable Okello has been arrested and that homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances under which the firearm was used. The National Cleaning Day exercise, held on the last Saturday of every month from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., restricts vehicular movement to allow communities to clean public spaces. Reports from across the country indicated mixed levels of public participation. In some areas residents voluntarily joined the exercise, while in others security agencies and local authorities had to compel people and businesses to comply. The fatal shooting has drawn public concern over the use of force during the enforcement of the monthly exercise. King Musah Media will continue following the investigation
